Tactile Indicators

TGSIs or Tactile Ground Surface Indicators are a mandatory item in any new build or alteration that provide early warning of possible hazards to blind or vision-impaired people. These hazards would include but are not limited to, stairs, ramps, road crossings, bus and train platforms and overhead hazards.
Tactiles can be split into two types: Warning or hazard tactiles which warn as to a hazard in the pedestrian’s line of travel, and directional tactile indicators which are used to indicate and guide changes in direction from the pedestrian’s line of travel.
Both types are available in different materials such as polymeric, stainless steel and brass which can be selected depending on the location and budget of the particular application.

How are peel and stick tactile indicators installed?

Can peel and stick tactile indicators be removed and reinstalled?

Why is colour contrast important for tactile indicators?

The recommended colour contrast requirements for tactile indicators are outlined in the AS/NZS 1428.4.1:2009 standards.
