Buyers guide for selecting the right Tactile Indicators!

TGSIs, or tactile ground surface indicators, are a requirement for any new construction or renovation in a public space that give vision-impaired pedestrians an early warning of potential dangers in their path. The raised studs and bars on the ground are set up in a way that leads people to certain places in or warns them of hazards such as stairs, ramps, overhead hazards, platforms, etc. People who are vision impaired can find their way by feeling changes in texture with their feet or by using a mobility aid. Tactile indicators are therefore GST exempt as they assist the orientation of people with vision impairment.

Our tactile indicators come in two forms – individual Tactiles & integrated Tactiles. They are available in a variety of colours, materials & dimensions to offer highest level of slip resistance to minimize the risk of slip and falls.

All our Tactile Indicators also comply to the AS/NZS 1428.4.1-2009 standards.

It is important to choose if your project needs individual or integrated Tactile indicators & below listed are a few factors to help determine that.

A) Individual Tactile Indicators:

  • Aesthetic
The aesthetics of a project are one of the most important factors in architecture. Our individual tactile indicators are available in stainless steel, brass, and polymeric finishes. They are the perfect choice to give your project an architecturally enhanced appearance. Individual Tactiles can be installed in concrete, stone, ceramic, porcelain tiles and asphalt.
  • Durability
It is very important that the type of tactile indicators you install withstand constant foot traffic, heavy loads and other natural elements like wind, rain, and UV. These individual Tactiles are high in quality ensuring they don’t degrade over time & last long.

B) Integrated Tactile Indicators:

  • Sustainability
One of the product offerings in the integrated Tactile indicators is the 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗰® 𝗘𝗰𝗼 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 range which is manufactured in Australia using Recycled PET bottles and other PET products. Cleverly designed using an ultra-UV stabilized resin, they are guaranteed to last a minimum of 5 years without fading. The specially developed recycled plastic material makes it a great sustainable choice that will last long even in the heaviest pedestrian traffic areas.
  • Economical
The Tactile Tiles / Plates are one of the most economical options available, that offer highest level of safety in a cost-effective manner in comparison to individual Tactiles.
  • Easy Installation
The right amount of space must be left between each unit when installing Tactiles. Inconsistent spacing can lead to confusion or, worse, accidents. Our Tactile Plates are easy and fast to install ensuring achieving the perfect look with minimal risk.
